Victory after walk out at N1 this morning

Postal workers in Islington, north London, are celebrating after an unofficial walkout this morning (Thursday) forced Royal Mail to reinstate a suspended colleague.
Around 90 delivery staff at the N1 sorting office downed tools after managers attempted to discipline a long-standing worker, accusing him of “wilful delay of the mail”.
Union activists at the office say the incident follows a number of provocations recently.
Royal Mail managers at first tried to take a tough stand against the unofficial strike, but after three hours they gave in and reinstated the suspended worker.
“It’s a complete victory,” said Mark Dolan, a senior CWU union rep in north London.
His comments were echoed by others at the N1 office, which is known as a union stronghold. “It’s about time we took action,” said one worker. “This has been long overdue,” added another.
With Royal Mail attempting to push through thousands of job losses across the capital, this militant response to management bullying could not have come at a better time.

"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

Not quite in keeping with what you think is one of the most important issues for usgb93 wrote:Typical special rules for London again
This seems to address both.gb93 wrote:Managerial B&H is top issue by far. (In my opinion)
Apathy of members comes a close 2nd. Need to find a way to address that.
From other posts you do seem to think London is treated differently but perhaps its because they do confront issues as they arise, and they communicate better than other areas.

hats off to the london members. if all offices showed this kind of togetherness instead of cutting each others throats,rm would be a better workplace. let this be a lesson to bullying managers in ALL offices

I honestly don't know why that is.
It's the same with the Dunfermline dispute...not really a show of solidarity amongst any of the posts.
POSTMAN even had to post...
It's a funny old world.88 views as i write and no thoughts?

in all fairness fishtank, the burnley and dunfirm ones have only been granted an appeal if im right whereas N1 is victory.

Re: Victory after walk out at N1 this morning
I'm not aware of the full details of the N1 case but if it has gone from suspension and a wilful delay charge to "no case to answer" in the space of a couple of hours then the manager who suspended and charged him will have a few difficult questions to answer.wayoutman wrote:in all fairness fishtank, the burnley and dunfirm ones have only been granted an appeal if im right whereas N1 is victory.
The point is none of that should make any difference as to whether we as members show solidarity and support for any members taking the fight to Royal Mail no matter the outcome or the location.

Re: Victory after walk out at N1 this morning
dunfermline and burnley disputes could well be over totally different problems.
if now they have gone down the appeals procedure that is due to the staff staying together
in those offices and not letting mangement walk all over them. good luck to them.
as for n.1 islington delivery office they have always been up for a battle against management
in any issue.also to have mark dolan as a rep is an added bonus and not a rep who could be turned
over by management, that could be why he is our area rep.well done chaps!
