A bit more on Merseyside wildcat

Around 300 postal workers in Liverpool are on unofficial strike after Royal Mail sacked six workers—for following management instructions!
Bosses took disciplinary measures against the six following an incident at Sandhill depot several months ago.
The workers had obeyed an order to increase the speed of a giant sorting machine, contrary to guidelines. As a result a large amount of mail was delayed after being improperly sorted.
Royal Mail’s announcement last weekend that they have sacked the six immediately led workers at Sandhill to walk out. Colleagues at Brunswick Dock, another major sorting office in the south of the city, quickly followed them.
The strike spread as managers attempted to move “scab mail” to the West Derby delivery office. So far, Royal Mail has not attempted to move the work to any other offices.
CWU union branch secretary Mark Walsh told Socialist Worker that his members were “outraged” at the way their colleagues have been treated.
“Our priority is to get the six CWU members who have been sacked back to work,” he said. “We want the decision taken out of local managers’ hands and passed to a senior team from Royal Mail HQ.”

Socialist Worker would like any information about whether the strike has spread to Warrington, as some union activists are suggesting. Please email reports@socialistworker.co.uk with any detail. Thanks.
