A SHOPKEEPER who went to the wedding as a personal friend of the Middleton family is to appear in court on fraud and theft charges.
Hasmukh Shingadia runs a Spar convenience store close to the royal bride's family home - and they regularly visit to buy bread and milk.
The charges relate to a sub-post office Shingadia, 51, ran from the shop in Upper Bucklebury, Berks, until it closed a year ago.
He is accused of stealing £16,000 in a prosecution brought by Royal Mail Group, according to a court source.
Shingadia also faces a fraud charge regarding cash-in-hand accounting.
When we approached him about the allegations, he said: "No comment. I'm innocent."
He and his wife Chan attended last Friday's wedding. They have known the Middleton family for 13 years and Prince William has called in to the shop.
They were interviewed on TV before entering Westminster Abbey. Shingadia said afterwards: "It was an absolute privilege."
He is due at Oxford Crown Court on May 13. A Post Office spokesman said: "We cannot comment."

Are the media so hungry for scandal about will +kt that they widen their net to this extent?
What does it have to do with recent wedding? nothing.
Will it affect the man getting a fair hearing?
He certainly wont be afforded any dignity or privacy,
innocent till proved guilty and all of that.
I hope kates former postman is doing his redirections ,avoiding parking tickets etc .

Is there anyone who runs a Post Office who hasn't been accused of stealing?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

One would not have expected there to be a 'Spar convenience store' in such an upper class part of Berkshire.
And the Middletons consuming 'bread and milk' ?
Whoever could have imagined that ?
How things will have changed for her now.

Middleton family shopkeeper is sentenced for fraud
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-14234437" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A shopkeeper who attended the royal wedding as a guest of the Middleton family has been given an eight-month suspended prison sentence for fraud.
Hasmukh Shingadia, 51, admitted false accounting between December 2008 and March 2010 at Oxford Crown Court.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge used to be clients at his Peaches Spar shop in Upper Bucklebury, Berkshire.
He had stolen more than £16,000 of Post Office money from his shop's sub post office to prop up his business.
The missing amount came to light during an audit last year. It has since been repaid in full, the court heard.
'Deeply impressed'
Shingadia's shop was near the Middleton's family home.
Recorder Wallace said: "Mr Shingadia was a man of previous exemplary character. I've never before received so many tributes to the character of a defendant and I am deeply impressed."
Shingadia, whose prison sentence is suspended for one year, was also ordered to carry out two hundred hours of unpaid work and pay £2,669 in costs.
At an earlier hearing, Nigel Daly, defending, told the court his client was suffering a cash flow problem at the time with the non-Post Office side of his business.
He said he had always intended to pay back the money.
