Former postie sets up Eclipse Personal Training

HELPING people to lose pounds in weight and gain pounds in sterling is proving a real draw for clients of a new personal trainer, who has dubbed himself the UK's first professional to offer "lbs for pounds".

Former postman Paul West set up Eclipse Personal Training to help people achieve the bodies they want and to receive rewards as they get closer to their goal.

Mr West, from Boldon in South Tyneside, said: “The key motivator to train and exercise will always be to look and feel great, but what I have done is to introduce a fiscal incentive where every pound they lose, they will gain back a pound in their pockets.

“I started in business only a few weeks ago and the ‘lbs for pounds’ programme is proving a huge success.”

Mr West spent 10 years delivering letters and parcels as a postman, so is no stranger to the early mornings required in his latest career. He now spends four mornings a week training people on the North Shields fish quay at 6am.

“Watching the sun rise while training people is a great feeling, the enthusiasm is incredible,” said Mr West.

“I have always had a love of health and fitness and when I was walking my postal routes I would often dream about one day running my own business.

“My focus became clearer when I starting running two years ago for the 10K race in Sunderland.

“I trained with my running partner and noticed how we were both becoming fitter due to the routines I was designing. From there the idea to train people professionally was born.”

He runs a fitness bootcamp in North Shields and is also a qualified Boxercise instructor. But Paul is also aiming to persuade more people into healthier lifestyles by bringing his training into their homes, complete with kettlebell weights, step, boxing gloves, focus pads and an amplifier, which he sets up on site.

“The definition of Eclipse is to surpass achievement, which is what I am challenging my clients to do and to not hold back,” he said.

“My ultimate goal is to become the number one trainer in homes and to help 1,000 people in the North East eclipse their targets in the next 12 months.”
