Evacuations over suspect package in Bolton post office

Homes and businesses in Bolton were evacuated after a suspicious package was found in a post box.

Staff raised their suspicions with police after the discovery of the parcel at the post office on Winter Hey Lane, Horwich.

Greater Manchester Police said the package was made safe by bomb disposal experts.

A 100m cordon put in place has been lifted and the device has been removed for further examination.

Supt Steve Nibloe said: "We are grateful to all affected by this incident for their patience.

"We will now investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident."
