StockMarketWire.com - Royal Mail has scrapped plans to force businesses to pay for collecting their post from delivery offices, it has been revealed.
The move has been hailed as a victory by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), which has been arguing against the £210 charge, set to come in on 4th April.
The FSB's Scottish Policy Convener, Andy Willox OBE, said:
"We did feel it was a bit rich for Royal Mail to try and charge us for effectively doing their job for them. But, they are to be congratulated for listening to our arguments and scrapping this proposed charge.
"Small businesses rely on the postal service and are some of Royal Mail's most loyal customers. We receive orders, invoices and cheques in the post every day and, if we want them turned round by return, we need to receive the post as early as possible. By allowing us to continue to collect it direct from the office, we are saving both ourselves and Royal Mail valuable time."
Royal Mail's Mail Collect service enables businesses to collect their mail from their delivery office from 8:30am until closing time. This is particularly useful for businesses which do not normally receive mail deliveries until later in the day, or who are concerned about the safety of their mail in, for example, shared premises.
Royal Mail had proposed to introduce an annual charge of £210 to use this service. However, following pressure from the FSB on behalf of its members, the service will remain free.

Royal Mail scraps business post collection charge plan

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I like that we now condem all the mail for schools during their holidays, unless they pay for a keepsafe!jockstrapp wrote:Just shows the bunch of w@nkers we have running this business, to even contemplate charging for picking up your own mail.![]()

I don't understand why the schools can't put in an alternative DP for the times they're closed, how much would a box cost stuck on the gate.belle smith wrote:I like that we now condem all the mail for schools during their holidays, unless they pay for a keepsafe!jockstrapp wrote:Just shows the bunch of w@nkers we have running this business, to even contemplate charging for picking up your own mail.![]()

There one or two round our way that have letter boxes. Don't see that a box on the gate would work during the summer holidays, it would need to be a big box!DGP1 wrote:I don't understand why the schools can't put in an alternative DP for the times they're closed, how much would a box cost stuck on the gate.belle smith wrote:I like that we now condem all the mail for schools during their holidays, unless they pay for a keepsafe!jockstrapp wrote:Just shows the bunch of w@nkers we have running this business, to even contemplate charging for picking up your own mail.![]()

Why we don't just hold there mail like we used to i don't know......Well actually i do as a company we don't have any money, since the last goverment in it's infinite wisdom "librelised" the sector.
Which they hoped would lead to RM adopting more commercial disapline.
We have
Like charging schools to not deliver there mail.
Certainly contemplating charging small buisness for not delivering their mail.
Cutting so many hours out of offices that we can't be relyed upoon to do the basics like deliver peoples on-line Christmas shopping before Christmas.

Now...if we could "Charge" for people collecting N/A packets, Recordeds, Specials etc, then they MIGHT stay at home to receive them!
They ordered them and then complain we didn't knock/ring and then ran away...fast!...
Also a Double Charge for any pratt who doesn't bring in their Red N/A card.
God, I'm on A/L but still feeling EVIL !!!

Charge people for a second redelivery attempt! How many times have you had to return a 'redelivery' item because they were out. They even get to choose the day it gets redelivered, but they are still out. Then they want it redelivered again.....

Don't worry, when we are privatised then they will bring the charge in. It does cost RM money and it is not going to be a public service soon.

i work for parceforce and even after 2 attempted deliveries the customer can ring uo and request a 3rd delivery free of charge and if they decide to go out again and miss us they can keep asking for a free delivery until they can spare me the time to wait for their parcel !

Re: Royal Mail scraps business post collection charge plan
why do people go out when they arranged to have a second delivery? then again, since there is no specific time of delivery, maybe someone had to go out in an emergency or some other matter that warranted attention. or maybe had popped next door for a cuppa, and it does get annoying staying in all day and take a risk of running a quick errand.
if they went out all day disregarding the delivery totally, well what could i say. the least they could do is telephone rm and arrange a second 'second' delivery

and here comes avi cohen! oh i say! at the same end, he's got one back!!

They would need a bin mate not a box on a gate, you seen how much mail they get a day?DGP1 wrote:I don't understand why the schools can't put in an alternative DP for the times they're closed, how much would a box cost stuck on the gate.belle smith wrote:I like that we now condem all the mail for schools during their holidays, unless they pay for a keepsafe!jockstrapp wrote:Just shows the bunch of w@nkers we have running this business, to even contemplate charging for picking up your own mail.![]()
