Royal Mail stands by new delivery service

THE Royal Mail has denied rumours that it will be abandoning the new delivery schemes that have seen disrupted service across Guildford and an ensuing avalanche of complaints from postal workers and householders in the area.
An overhaul of Royal Mail services, including van sharing across larger delivery areas, has affected postcode areas GU2 to GU5, while changes to the GU1 area are due to be implemented during the beginning of this month.
One Guildford postal worker said there had been suggestions the schemes were being shelved.
He said: “The management might have actually admitted defeat – allegedly they are scrapping the changes for the time being, as they are just not working.
“I have had no post since last Thursday and the delivery room is in chaos – piles of unsorted mail everywhere.
“It is absolutely shocking – in my time here I have never seen it like this, even at Christmas. What’s going on is embarrassing.”
The postal worker added: “It is the amount of mail we have to deal with – rounds have got so big and this is the quietest time of the year.”
A spokesman for the Royal Mail said the company stood by its efforts to modernise its business and emphasised it would not be putting an end to the changes.
She said: “The revisions implemented in Guildford have resulted in changes in delivery practices.
“These changes are essential and will not be reversed.
“They are part of Royal Mail’s £2 billion investment to modernise the business at a time when mail volumes are continuing to decline every year.”
The spokesman insisted Royal Mail deliveries go out each day in the town.
She said: “Royal Mail is delivering mail to all residents in the Guildford area on a daily basis.
“Any customers who have experienced delays should contact our customer services department on 08457 740 740.”

The Census, Water Rates and Council Tax - - - - hardly the quietest time of the year. The postal worker added: “It is the amount of mail we have to deal with – rounds have got so big and this is the quietest time of the year.”
I know we want to make our case but if we want to show up RM for being dishonest with their statements then we need to be truthful with ours.

Re: Royal Mail stands by new delivery service
Yet again the "mail figures are dropping" bullshit. I really wish they hadn't put Stevie Wonder in charge of mail figures!
If the mail had dropped by as much as management have suggested over the last few years we'd all be taking out one bag a day, not 6 or more and that's before the revisions!

I Was told a while back that the mail has been dropping 10% a year for the the past 10 years if this were true we would be in negative equity by now and going out with an empty bag but as we all know this is not happening. Its about time someone exposed these scumbags for the lying bunch of b......s they are.

Re: Royal Mail stands by new delivery service
Um. The maths says we'd now have about 35% of the mail we did 10 years ago, at -10% per year, year-on-year?
So if we now have 180,000 posties, compared to 240,000 back then (please correct figures if wrong?) which is 75% of 10 years ago.........and yeah, i don't belive the volumes have dropped much, if at all, either ;)

Re: Royal Mail stands by new delivery service
At my DO weve lost 5 duties in the last 5 years which means bigger delivery routes and therefore more mail. Prior to that in April 2004 we implemented SDD which mean 40% uplift in mail per urban delivery duty overnight.
So for the last 7 years urban delivery routes have been geting bigger on a regular basis but this is ignored to suit the powers that be agenda that all is not well with the only solution being a sell off of RMG.

Re: Royal Mail stands by new delivery service
From tomorrow, (14th) GU2 area is going back to the rounds as they were before the changes, after only 4 weeks, but still van sharing and trolleys. Part of GU1 has gone "live" but most of GU1 has been put on hold for the moment. 4 rounds were taken out of GU2 area, but only 2 are being returned, so I'm not sure what will happen to the rounds going back as they were if 2 rounds missing??? Still very large back log though. GU2 line manager still off with stress but to be fair to him he's been fighting their cause and it looks like he's being replaced with a friend of the DOM who probably will just carry out orders as instructed and not stand up for the posties!

Re: Royal Mail stands by new delivery service
This is now happening in GU21 (Woking).
Since 16 May we have only had post delivered every other day (yes, I'm sad, I keep a record).
Delivery staff have had rounds merged and we are told the maximum they can manage where we are is 1.25 rounds in the day, and they have 2 full rounds to take out.
Complaining to RM Customer services appears to be a waste of time; as they had a reply from the local office to say that they were changing the systems, this was deemed to have closed my complaint.
I have opened another complaint.
Any tips how to get this sorted? Customer services agree that the RM standard is for delivery 6 days a week. They aren't interested in enforcing this.
