THE closure of Bromyard’s Royal Mail delivery office will go ahead despite the intervention of local MP Bill Wiggin.
Mail operations will be transferred to Hereford and Worcester because the lease on the depot, in the Porthouse industrial estate, will not be renewed beyond the end of March.
There will be no job losses as a result of the move and undelivered mail can be collected from the post office in Church Street.
Mr Wiggin, who held discussions with Royal Mail representatives, said: “I was given assurances that there would be no detrimental effect on the quality or quantity of post services to families and businesses in the area.”
Coun Bernard Hunt said: “What I am very concerned about is that they have not taken into account the extra hour of travelling time to and from Hereford. I cannot see how the service will be better if the staff start their shifts an hour later. There will be a drop in the performance of delivery.”
