TWO thugs tried to rob a postman on his round in Widnes.

The 47-year-old victim was coming to the end of his delivery round on a secluded path off Dundalk Road at around 10am last Friday when he was approached by two men who told him to hand over the mail.

He refused and carried on with his delivery but as he returned to his van one of the offenders demanded his keys.

The victim again refused and a scuffle broke out. Eventually, when the postie was pushed to the floor, the thugs ran off empty handed towards Liverpool Road.

One of the offenders was white, around 5ft 9in tall, aged 20 to 22, slim with short auburn hair.

His accomplice was also white, slightly taller at around 5ft 11in to 6ft, around the same age and had short dark hair.

Brave...but not very wise.
Just give them the mail and the keys...both can be replaced.

I don't suppose this sort of thing occurs too frequently, but when it does it can be quite unnerving. I know, mostly because there's been one or three occasions where something along the same lines has happened to me.

Before this does happen to any other postie out there always try to take in as much info about the appearance of any dickheads or dickhead that might want to mug you too. It's quite easy to go into shock straight away, but if you (try) to hold onto as much about said dickheads as possible, then it should be a less shocking experience.

Actually, I've been robbed once, attacked twice (I think?) I have had my life threatened, not including the time I was chased down the road with a nutter wielding a kitchen knife, but on that occasion it had more to do with being a postman than, say, robbing a postman. Anyway, he got his comeuppance -- I kicked his fugging head in!

Some times it might be an idea to throw your attacker. Not in the literal sense, but in a humorous way. Some of these dickheads think that talking tough (with the threat of killing you) is going to be enough to put the sh*ts up anyone. What they may not realise is, that, for whatever reason, you might be in a jokey mood. Now, normally this wouldn't happen when someone is threatening to cut short your life, but sometimes, just sometimes it might work, as it did with me.

...Though, when you have two assailants occupying your attention that's when it can get a bit dicey. Talking to your assailants in anything other than normally will not work, so you either get a bit aggressive (not recommended), or do as fishtank suggests, giving up the mail, and or keys would be the more wiser thing to do. Still, shock can do many a strange thing with your normal behaviour, so it's not always common sense (to you) that enters your comfort zone when your normal day is being disrupted in such a way.

i feel sorry for the bloke but when was the last time you came to the end of your round at 10am i dont start before then most days
