OFFICERS from Kent Police are expected to travel to London today to talk to a teenager who was shot in the chest in Dover last night.

The 18-year-old man was transferred from the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford to London in the early hours of this morning to undergo surgery to remove the revolver bullet still lodged in his chest. He is in a serious but stable condition.

The shooting is thought to have taken place at the junction of Frith Road, close to the former Royal Mail sorting office, at about 8pm last night.

The area was cordoned off while police searched roads, Charlton cemetery and nearby houses for the weapon, which was recovered from a property in the Salisbury Road area.

A 17-year-old boy arrested following the incident has been released without charge. An 18-year-old man, from Dover, remains in police custody.

The search for a man wearing a white hoodie has been called off. South Kent Police area commander Chris Hogben said at a press briefing this morning that the description was part of a "false account" given to officers.

He said police are not treating the shooting as random or gang-related and confirmed the victim and the suspect are known to each other.

Chief Supt Hogben said: "Although this has caused significant interest in Dover I would stress that this is an isolated incident involving local people from a small social group.

"Offences involving firearms are very rare in south Kent and I don't think this should cause too much concern to the local community."
