Villagers in Cubbington are the latest people to raise concerns about delays in receiving their mail.

Many received Christmas cards last week and some are still waiting for post to arrive.

Royal Mail this week vowed to clear all backlogs in south Warwickshire by today (Friday), but customers fear the problems are down to more than the high demands and bad weather last month.

David Saul, a Cubbington parish councillor who lives in Price Road, said: “I’m really upset. I know Royal Mail has had its problems but the service is unacceptable.

“I had been waiting for a quotation and I received the letter last week which had December 21 as its postage date,

“Since they closed the Bishop Street sorting office in Coventry the other office in Northampton seems unable to cope.”

Speaking last week, Julia Travis, of Knightley Close, said: “We had post yesterday for the first time in about a week.

“They can’t just blame the weather. We are still waiting for Christmas cards which we know have been sent.”

Sorting offices in Kenilworth and Warwick were opened on Sunday with managers drafted in to help clear the large amount of undelivered mail.

Mick Kavanagh, the Coventry-based spokesman for the Communication Workers’ Union, said bad weather and “incompetence of management” had been factors in the delays.

He added: “We fought a battle for three or four years to keep the Bishop Street office open but it closed in November last year and the effect will be that mail will be late throughout Coventry and Warwickshire.”

All this is because the company is down sizeing for privatisation,so people can expect alot more of the same in the future.
