A POWER cut caused a blackout in Bromsgrove town centre this morning, (January 14), forcing a number of High Street shops to close.
The power cut began at 10.20am, and a short while later the High Street was affected leaving many traders with no option but to close.
Police had to direct traffic at the town centre cross roads on Market Street, near Bromsgrove bus station, due to the failure of traffic lights.
Bromsgrove firefighters were called to St John’s House, in Church Street, where a postwoman delivering mail was trapped in a lift. Firefighters prised the doors open so the woman could escape.
Power was restored in Bromsgrove High Street at 12.50pm, and a spokesman for power firm E.ON said the majority of the 4,693 customers affected had their power restored just after 2pm.
Around 80 customers are still suffering a loss of power, and the spokesman said the priority was restoring their power.
The spokesman added the cause was an underground cable fault, and a full investigation would be launched.

Power cuts - all too common since the tories sold off the utility companies.
