Rescue centre loses thousands

AN animal rescue centre has been hit hard after thousands of pounds of donations went missing in the post.

Wildlives Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Thorrington sent off three weeks of donations to its accountants.

However Royal Mail informed the centre that the package had been damaged, with a lot of the contents lost.

Rosie Catford, who runs Wildlives, said: “I sent off three weeks worth of cheques from over the Christmas period, and over Christmas we get a lot of donations from supporters.

“I got a letter back from Royal Mail apologising and saying it had been damaged in the post office sorting room.

“Half the contents have gone missing. We are talking thousands of pounds lost.

Rosie has appealed for anyone who has donated to Wildlives in the last few weeks to check their bank accounts, and re-send the cheque if nothing has been taken out.

But had these valuable cheques just been stuffed in flimsy envelope or had they been packed probably, and was their worth such that Recorded Delivery, or even Special Delivery, might have been considered ?

And surely as a registered charity you need to keep records of who made the donation,
So..wouldn't you just match up the missing ones with your list,contact them and ask them to cancel the original cheque and re-issue a new one.
So really the title is bollocks.

Yeah but it's selling newspapers, do you think 'Rescue centre misplaces some cheques but will get it sorted out quite quickly' would sell as many.

The cheques in question will surely be made out to the charity and can only be cashed by them
