Postman’s iconic image raises hundreds for Forget Me Not Trust

AN iconic photograph which captured Huddersfield’s struggle against the snow has raised £1,300 for a children’s charity.

Postman Jonathan Haigh took the snap as he tried to complete his round in the snow-bound hills of the Colne Valley last January.

The photo, which featured in the Examiner last winter, sparked numerous requests for copies.

So Jonathan, 38, agreed to have the image reprinted, most recently on Christmas cards to raise cash for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.

The Slaithwaite man has already raised £500 for the trust by selling A4 copies of the picture.

Yesterday Jonathan handed a cheque for £800, raised from copies of the Christmas card, to the trust which hopes to build a children’s hospice in Brackenhall.

Mr Haigh said: “I just took the picture and that was that. But it snowballed from there and I was over the moon.

“I like photography but I’m not pro. That was taken on a compact camera.

“I’m chuffed to bits to have raised all that money and I want to thank everybody who bought the card or photo.
