Crewe and Nantwich MP demands improved service from RM

CREWE and Nantwich MP Edward Timpson has demanded a fortnightly update from Royal Mail so he can monitor the progress of deliveries in the area because of the “shocking drop in service quality”.

Mr Timpson met with Royal Mail senior management in Crewe earlier this month to hold them to account for the poor quality service Crewe residents have received since the closure of the town’s sorting office.

The Conservative MP said Royal Mail accepted they had underestimated the impact on the local postal delivery service as a result of the changes to the sorting and delivery systems operating in Cheshire.

Royal Mail apologised to the people of Crewe and Nantwich through Edward Timpson for letting them down and said they have learned the lessons of this episode.

He said they stated the new delivery revision programme should have been introduced prior to the sorting office moving to Warrington. It didn’t happen.

Royal Mail have now speeded up that process and their internal monitoring of delivery performance shows a marked improvement in service.

The fortnightly update from the Royal Mail collections and delivery director setting out what their current performance is and what measures they are taking to continue to improve the service for local businesses in particular had been agreed to, said the MP.

“This has been a shocking episode resulting in the CW postcode becoming the second worst performing postcode for deliveries in England,” said Mr Timpson.

“I told them it would happen, they didn’t listen, and now they are having to apologise.

“I am grateful however that Royal Mail have recognised they are at fault and that they are starting to put things right. This is a significant step forward.”

Mr Timpson also raised the matter in the House of Commons calling for a debate on the quality of the service.

Sir George Young, leader of the House of Commons, said he would raise the issue with the Under-Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, who has responsibility for postal affairs.

Speaking afterwards Mr Timpson said:“It is only right to raise the matter in Westminster, so that decision makers in Whitehall can hear about how their decisions affect thousands of real people every day.”

Warrington mail centre has had to put up a massive marque because it can't handle all the mail from the old mail centres Liverpool being one of them also. When are people in charge going to listen to the vast majority who do the work to not bring in all the silly and unworkable ideas. The public now get a terrible service with all the cuts no wonder firms ask other companies to deliver mail and yet it's still us putting it through the door for them.
