Royal Mail has let Kenilworth down

THE Royal Mail postal service has been labelled a “disgrace” by Kenilworth people who did not receive their post in time for Christmas.

Some homeowners who were waiting for Christmas gifts to arrive had to buy new presents from shops for their loved ones, and others are still waiting for Christmas cards, letters and bills, which they should have received more than a week ago.

Mother-of-two Julie Thomas, who lives in Saville Grove, said: “We’ve had a really terrible time with the Royal Mail post.

“It’s just been manic for the postmen who have been trying to wheel around trolleys in this really icy weather.

“They’ve been doing a great job but it seems like the new system, introduced by the Royal Mail a few months ago, is a disaster.

“I did most of my shopping in September but a few little extra gifts I bought online for family and friends still haven’t arrived, so I’ll have to give them to people for birthday presents instead.

“I also received a whole bundle of Christmas cards on Wednesday morning, which should have arrived days earlier.”

Cllr George Illingworth (Con, Abbey) said he cannot remember a time when the postal situation was as bad as it is today.

He added: “The Royal Mail used to be a reliable organisation, but they’ve really let Kenilworth down.

“I had to visit the post office twice last week to pick up post, otherwise I’d have never received it in time for Christmas.

“There was a four-day backlog of post before Christmas and the postmen stopped delivering letters and just delivered parcels to try and catch up.

“But it’s not just Christmas post we’re missing. Bills aren’t being delivered either and if they don’t get delivered then people can’t pay them.

“It’s a total disaster and the situation can’t be blamed on the weather because it was a disaster before the snow. All I say is thank God for email.”

The Royal Mail has issued a number of apologies to the people of Kenilworth over the past few weeks.

A spokesman for the company said: “Our postmen and women have been pulling out all the stops to get the mail delivered as quickly as possible, although in some instances these efforts were being hampered by the snow and icy conditions.

“We will continue doing our very best to keep the mail moving and get deliveries to people as quickly as we can.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

"All I say is thank God for email.”

So what's the problem then? Surely a few pieces of delayed 'snail-mail' isn't the end of the world. We've been told time and time again that volumes are falling, e-mail and text messaging are replacing letters, paperless billing and the internet are eroding the business.
A bit of snow just before Christmas combined with RM's latest round of carnage shouldn't have caused any problems, especially as the 'public' keep reminding us, there are alternatives.
I suppose it's our fault the alternatives failed. :Boo hoo!
