Boy 10, made to remove graffiti from Neath post office

A 10-year-old boy who sprayed graffiti on a post office wall was forced to wash it off while villagers looked on.

Police said they quickly tracked down the youngster after the damage appeared in Resolven near Neath and he admitted what he had done.

Officers said it did not make sense to pursue a criminal complaint against the boy and the postmaster was happy with the punishment.

Sergeant Geraint Jenkins said residents also supported the action taken.

The boy, who had sprayed initials on the wall on Tuesday, cleaned them off the following day.

Sergeant Jenkins of the Glynneath neighbourhood policing team said: "There was no permanent damage to the wall and the postmaster was more than happy with this course of action.

"It would have been in no-one's interest to pursue a criminal complaint.

"He fully admitted spraying the wall and after we consulted with the complainant he attended the post office to wash off the paint.

"He has taken responsibility for his actions and knows what he did was wrong.

"A large number of the community witnessed the paint being washed off and they were totally supportive of the action taken."
