Royal Mail opens site in Pencoed to handle Christmas rush

ROYAL Mail Group has entered into a licence to occupy more than 50,000 sq ft at Pencoed Technology Park in Bridgend.

The investment will help its parcel delivery operation, which is experiencing a higher than normal surge in orders due to the bad weather.

The requirement followed the exceptional surge in internet shopping and disruption to large parts of the UK.

King Sturge were able to find a suitable location at short notice.

Royal Mail operations director for Wales, Tony Baxter, said: “As part of our contingency plans to ensure we deliver a great Christmas for all our customers, we have opened up a temporary unit in Pencoed in South Wales to assist in the handling of the additional millions of items of mail we are receiving as a result of the festive season mailbag and also due to the recent atrocious weather conditions across the UK.

“The additional contingency in South Wales is part of a £20m investment by Royal Mail across the UK in extra measures being implemented to deal with the most severe weather across the country in 30 years.

Capita Symonds acted for Royal Mail Group and King Sturge for landlord MGPA.
