Royal Mail exceeded its first class delivery targets in all but one region of Wales during the second quarter of the year.

For the period July – September 2010, only the Llandrindod Wells (LD) area was marginally below the Royal Mail’s target to deliver 91.5 per cent of stamped and metered first class mail the next day. This was a great improvement on the disappointing 83.3 per cent the region achieved during the first quarter of the year.

Rebecca Thomas, mail expert at Consumer Focus Wales, said: ‘We welcome the progress made by Royal Mail and the hard work they have put in to ensuring customers receive their mail on time. Although the next few months may pose problems for delivery in the face of adverse weather conditions, we hope that Royal Mail will continue to deliver a first class service to its customers.’

With the last posting dates for Christmas fast approaching, there are some useful tips consumers should bear in mind to make sure their cards and presents arrive on time.

Today (15th December) is the last day for posting parcels. The last date for second class mail is Saturday 18th December and first class mail is Tuesday 21st December.

If you’re sending valuable presents, don’t forget to ask for a free certificate of posting receipt (available from Post Offices at the counter). It will be required for full compensation in case of any loss, damage or delay to your gift.

Consumers can also skip the Christmas queues by buying and printing off postage online or using one of the automated kiosks in a main Post Office.
