The Dundee East mail backlog is now affecting other branches with sackfuls of letters and parcels being sent to other depots in the area for sorting.
The beleaguered delivery office at West Pitkerro is struggling to cope with the effects of the winter weather on top of the problems caused by the new delivery system The Way Forward introduced last month, which staff found impossible.
Extra staff were drafted in to Dundee East to sort and deliver mail but they are now needed in their own branches for Christmas mail.
Part of the new delivery system saw posties wheeling mail sacks around streets on golf trolleys. The snowy pavements have made this difficult, forcing staff to resort to carrying the sacks on their backs as they make their way over treacherous surfaces.
Customers in the DD4 and DD5 postcode areas are growing increasingly unhappy at the poor service they are receiving. They say mail deliveries were irregular before the snow arrived and now they are worse, with people complaining about not receiving letters for weeks.
The growth of online shopping has increased their concern, and many people feel that precious gifts will not arrive in time for Christmas.
Phil Collier of Broughty Ferry said, "I have received one delivery of mail in the last 18 days and that was on November 27. This is despite my having made three formal complaints via the Royal Mail customer service line. I am now waiting on numerous overdue first class items of mail.
"We saw a Royal Mail van on Hill Street, Broughty Ferry, on Saturday, but no deliveries then or Sunday."
Farrago
He believed it was unethical for Royal Mail to take customers' money for a service they are struggling to provide.
"If I was minded to believe in conspiracy theories, then this may suggest the managers are trying to get us all so annoyed that we will be happy with anything approaching a normal service they lash together after privatisation," he added. "I feel terribly sorry for the poor posties caught in the middle of this farrago."
Isobel Turned of Barnhill said, "I normally get mail about every day but I have had nothing for a week. There are Christmas cards and other letters I should be getting but there has been nothing.
"I get on well with my postman but he has been given this trolley to pull his mail bag on, and the pavements are so bad here that he wouldn't be able to use it."
Ken Kennedy of Broughty Ferry has been waiting for a delivery from a department store that was apparently dispatched three weeks ago.
"The service is pretty grim down here. I put an email away and had nothing back," he said. "I sent another one away and got a reply that said the person didn't know of any problems in this area.
"I mentioned it to the Post Office here and was given two numbers to phone. No one answered one of them and the other was so convoluted I gave up...Obviously we've got snow just now, but last week we had nothing arrive from Monday until Friday. I found that quite amazing."
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said, "We are continuing to send mail for Dundee East to other offices for manual sorting and there is no issue with this."

I would bet money that taurus88 wrote that.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
