Postman tracks down 107-year-old to deliver letter

The Royal Mail has gone the extra mile to get a letter to a 107-year-old former teacher that was addressed with just his name, age and town.

Postman Fenton Brown decided to enlist the help of The Wokingham Times to get the letter to Rhys Lewis, a former teacher at Easthampstead Park School, from one of his former students, now based in Folkestone.

Mr Brown and his colleagues opened the letter, which was addressed ‘Rhys Lewis, age 107, Wokingham’, in the hope it would provide more clues for the address.

The envelope contained an old photograph of a group of pupils at the school.

Mr Brown said: “I phoned the lady who sent it and she didn’t know an address for him.

“If they are not properly addressed we usually send them back, but it said it was for a 107-year-old and we thought it would be good to try and help get it to him.”

The Wokingham Times has featured many stories about Mr Lewis in the past, covering each of his birthdays over the last few years.

After The Wokingham Times gave Royal Mail Mr Lewis’ address, the postman was able to deliver the photograph and letter.

Mr Lewis was delighted to receive the photograph and impressed by the Royal Mail’s efforts to send it to him.
