MOUNTAIN Ash Delivery Office postal workers are on the move to refurbished premises to join colleagues a few miles away in Aberdare.
Royal Mail said the relocation decision was prompted by the need to both improve the working environment for staff and the efficiency of Royal Mail operations.
The proposed move had been planned for some time due to the restricted office space in the delivery office at Knight Street in Mountain Ash.
Royal Mail said it decided the best solution was to relocate staff there to the Aberdare Sorting Office on the Aberaman Industrial Estate.
The Mountain Ash office is expected to close from November 22.
Royal Mail Delivery Sector Manager John Pettifer said: “The challenges facing Royal Mail since the opening up of the postal market and the increasing number of competitors vying for business customers, also requires us to improve efficiency and reduce costs, in order to secure future business and jobs.
“We always consult with our staff and the postal workers union before making a decision and we are confident that the Mountain Ash office move is the correct one for both our people and our business.”
A range of options for re-delivery of items to customers in the CF45 postcode area have been put in place for items to be re-delivered to customers who were out when the postman called.
This includes arranging collection of items from at the main post office branch in Mountain Ash – with longer opening times than the current hours at Mountain Ash inquiry office – or re-delivery to another local address, which can be arranged by telephone or online.”
Customers who have any queries about the changes can call the Customer Service Centre on 08457 740740.
Mr Pettifer added: “There will inevitably be a period of adjustment while these new arrangements come into effect. We are asking customers for their co-operation and patience during this period.
“We are confident that with this new merged office fully operational, we will be well placed to meet our customers’ need for a consistent and reliable postal service, both now and in the future.”
