Gowkshill postbox battle won

RESIDENTS in the Gowkshill area of Gorebridge are to have access to a postbox for the first time in six years after the previous box was destroyed by a van.

Gorebridge Community Council heard last week that a postbox at Lingerwood Road, Newtongrange, was to be moved to allow better access to Gowkshill residents.

Jim Baker addressed the meeting, explaining that he had fought for two years for a solution to the problem, which he believed to stem from postal workers covering up malpractice.

Community council chairman, Jimmy Innes described the situation as “ridiculous”.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “Royal Mail can confirm that it has agreed to re-locate the Lingerwood postbox 200 yards from the council yard up the hill as requested and work will commence on this shortly. The original postbox in Gowkshill was damaged in 2005 and Royal Mail were unable to reinstall the box due to operation reasons.”
