Royal Mail has appointed Lloyds Banking Group's former comms director for the top comms role.
Shane O’Riordain takes on the job as director of communications, starting today. He replaces Mary Fagan, who leaves after seven years with Royal Mail.
Royal Mail Group chief executive officer Moya Greene said: ‘Shane’s wide experience will be an asset to the company as we continue our modernisation drive. There is enormous interest in the company - from the media, all our customers, and, crucially, from our people - and Shane will play a key role in ensuring we get our message across effectively and clearly.’
O’Riordain left Lloyds in July, when he said he would be 'taking a short break before seeking a new opportunity with another organisation'. He was replaced by former Burghley Communications managing partner Brigitte Trafford.
O’Riordain has also worked for the Irish Diplomatic Service in Dublin and Washington.

Royal Mail hands Shane O'Riordain top comms role

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
