STRIKE breaking RM boss arrested yesterday for death.

Post by jinglejangle »

A STRIKE breaking Royal Mail boss was arrested yesterday after his lorry had a crash with a van killing the driver.

Office worker Phil Edmonds, 46, was at the wheel of the articulated truck when the vehicles collided, pushing the Astra van into the central reservation of a dual carriageway.

The 56-year-old driver, from Exeter, Devon, died and his passenger had to be cut free. The busy A379 at Matford was shut for 10 hours.

Mr Edmonds, who usually works in revenue and audit in Plymouth, is being quizzed on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

He is believed to be among 5,000 managers drafted in as 30,000 staff staged a 24-hour strike over pay. The CWU said: "This is an appalling tragedy. Sadly it demonstrates the extreme measures the Royal Mail is taking to mitigate the effects of the strike instead of talking about it."

The Royal Mail denied bosses are driving without adequate training.

Police name victim of A379 crash
Police in Devon have named the man who died in a road accident on Thursday.
Henry Charles Brown, known as Harry Brown, was 56-year-old and from St Thomas in Exeter. He was married with five children.

The accident involved Mr Brown's van and a lorry, which collided on the A379 Bridge Road in Exeter.

The other driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, but has been released on police bail until 23 October.

Mr Brown's family are considering an appeal.

The lorry driver, a 46-year-old man from Newton Abbot, suffered a fractured wrist in the incident.

The Countess Wear and the Matford roundabouts were closed for several hours to allow police to examine the scene and vehicle recovery.

The BBC are being very vague about this accident with no mention of Royal Mails involment.

A tragedy for Mr Browns wife and 5 children and our thoughts should be for him,his family and friends.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
