Exceptions to Royal Mail’s universal service obligation – for 1, 3 and 4 January 2011
This consultation seeks views from postal users (senders and recipients) on Royal Mail’s application for an exception to the universal service on:
• Monday 3 January 2011 in the UK; and
• Tuesday 4 January 2011 in Scotland only,
in addition to Saturday 1 January 2011.
Royal Mail has made this request because under current arrangements there would be no service on Saturday 1 January but a normal service would resume on bank holiday Monday 3 January (except for Scotland where a normal service would resume on Tuesday 4 January).
If Postcomm agrees to an exception to the universal service obligation on the dates requested, it means that Royal Mail will not have to deliver or collect mail on those dates.
This is a one month consultation. The deadline for responses is 22 October 2010.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

As the 1st Jan is a Saturday and the bank holiday is transferred to the Monday, surely RM don't need to apply for an exception for the Monday as well as the Saturday. Or are they just doing it to confuse us, like with everything else? Doesn't matter to me as I'll be on leave

Monday the 3rd is a bank holiday so i don't see why RM needs to ask Postconn for an exception.
They'll have us working on Christmas Day again and blaming it on Postconn next!

Sat 1st is the public holiday.
We work Saturday's and therefore do not automatically qualify for a substitute day.
Royal Mail could,if they wanted to...have you back at work on monday 3rd.
