ROYAL Mail delivery office manager Gary Stewart had a delivery of his own to make when he called in at Clenchwarton Primary School with a cheque for about £123.

The money was from sponsorship he received for tackling the Three Peaks Challenge with nine of his delivery men from the Royal Mail depot in Newmarket, where he works.

Mr Stewart (39), of Langham Street, South Lynn, completed the walks up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within the 24-hour target in mid-June, recording a personal time of 23hrs 50mins.

In total, he raised just over £220 to be split between the school, which is hoping to replace some outdoor play equipment, and the charity Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, which his fellow participants were supporting.

Last month, Mr Stewart visited the Clenchwarton school to give the children an illustrated talk about the three mountains and the challenge, at their afternoon assembly.

“It was well received and I got some good feedback. I asked them questions about the heights of the three mountains and the 1,258 miles I travelled in total, and some of the children even remembered that figure so the teacher was well impressed,” he said.

Royal Mail loaned the team undertaking the challenge two minibuses for the travelling and also sponsored them.

Mr Stewart said they got soaked on the first peak, Ben Nevis, went up Scafell Pike in the pitch darkness with torches strapped to their heads and finished in glorious sunshine on Snowdon.

£220 isn't a lot to raise for three mountains, 1,258 miles travelled and Royal Mail loaning the team two minibuses.
One might conclude they're all somewhat tight fisted in Clenchwarton.
But well done anyway. :Very Happy
