A MAN who launched racially charged abuse at Harrow Post Office customers has been fined.

Martin Kavanagh, 31, racially abused a 60-year-old man before turning his anger towards a 65-year-old woman in Wealdstone Post office, in Headstone Drive.

The outburst from the Bushey resident came on Friday, March 19, when he marched to the front of the queue and demanded to be served. When told to wait his turn, he became angry and aggressive towards the customers.

Police were called and Kavanagh was arrested and charged with racially aggravated public disorder.

He was hauled before Harrow magistrates yesterday and ordered to pay a £130 fine, £150 court costs, and give each victim £50 compensation.

PC Janine Stevenson, of Harrow Police's Community Safety Unit, said: "The Met takes all allegations involving racially aggravated crimes extremely seriously and ensures that the matter is investigated expediently and brought before the court as soon as possible.

“In such matters, the distress of the victims is all too apparent and we try to ensure that they are supported, not only during the investigation, but also during the court proceedings which we understand is a difficult time in their lives."
