Village gets new post office

A NEW post office will open in Abbots Bromley just yards from where one was closed down just last month.

Negotiations between Post Office Ltd and local residents have led to the establishment of a counter in The Cash Stores, Lichfield Road.

The shop is just a few doors from a Post Office branch which was one axed when the local subpostmaster retired on June 19.

Abbots Bromley MP Michael Fabricant welcomed the move, he said: “I am relieved this proposal is being taken forward.

“There was a very real risk that the Post Office would be closed for good.

“Abbots Bromley villagers would have had to travel to Uttoxeter and back for post office services.

“This move also strengthens the long-term viability of the local village shop so it has a double benefit to Abbots Bromley.” In a letter to Michael Fabricant, Post Office officials said: “Due to the retirement of the subpostmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, this branch closed on a temporary basis on 19 June 2010.

“I can assure you that it is our intention to continue to provide a Post Office service to our customers in the local community and we have been exploring a number of options that would enable us to do this.

“The establishment of a Post Office local service presents the best possible solution to allow us to restore Post Office services in Abbots Bromley.” The Post Office will be open Monday-Friday from 6.30am to 7pm, Saturdays from 8am to 7pm and Sunday mornings 8am to 1pm.

The new branch will offer a slightly reduced service from previously, but will nonetheless offer main Post Office services, including providing stamps, posting items, claiming benefits and cash withdrawals.

And has Abbots Bromley's SPDO been kept open or do the village posties now work out of Rugeley ?
And why does Lichfoeld MP Michael Fabricant say that if the Post Office had not reopened villages would nave to go to Uttoxeter ( 7.2 miles away ) amd not Rugeley ( 6.6 miles away ) ? Presumably because like many other Conservative MPs he's somewhat lacking in knowledge of his own constituency

And trying to find out a bit about the village this is what I came up with ;

just down the road from the well known chav land uttoxetor, abbots bromley is a small village with a growin chav population
there is a gang of chavs aound 15-16 years old, who all wear the same thing on the same day (its a gang thing apparantly) they like to date girls who are around 10 years old and wear more gold (be it fake) than the queen
their favorite pass time is hanging out in the kiddy park (ohh hard! get them!) whilst smoking and drinking shandy and throwing bark at cars, apparantly it makes them look big, hard, scary and amusing, its a shame the rest of the village sees them as talentless croud followers. they walk around the village, getting served in the pubs that have more underaged drinkers than legal, shouting abuse at anyone that looks slightly normal and doesnt have their jeans tucked into their socks or who isnt wearing surfer shorts (yes surfer shorts! its the new burberry apparantly, and yes they do all have the same pair)
oh how we are proud of our group of yobs, they do make everyone else look so much better after all!
