Blue dye could lead to Bestwood Royal Mail robbers

POLICE are urging the public to look out for Bank of England notes covered in blue dye.

The notes were stolen when two robbers threatened a Royal Mail driver as he was delivering a cash-box to the Post Office in Beckhampton Road, Bestwood Estate, at around 9.20am on Monday.

The men snatched the cash-box containing several thousand pounds and ran off towards Hartcroft Road.

Moments later a small car was seen speeding along Hartcroft Road which may have been used by the robbers.

The security guard was left shaken by the robbery but not harmed.

The empty cash-box was recovered near garages, in the Eardley Road area, Bestwood Estate.

Both robbers are described as aged mid to late teens and one of the men was wearing a green top.

DC Stephen Dalby said: "When the cash box is forced open without a key, an alarm activates, which sprays the cash with a blue dye.

"We believe at least some of the cash will be covered in the dye and could also have covered the robbers' hands and clothes.

"I would urge anyone who is given a note tainted with the blue dye, or has spotted somebody covered in blue dye, to give the police a call immediately."

Officers are also keen to trace the vehicle, which was driven along Hartcroft Road, moments after the robbery.
