Stockport-based facilities management company Romec has won a building services maintenance contract with the Salvation Army.

The agreement covers 130 commercial properties including churches, charity shops and social care centres in the west of Scotland.

Romec will also provide round-the-clock emergency cover as well as testing and inspection of gas equipment and remedial work.

The contract follows Romec's work for the Salvation Army during the harsh winter, when its engineers provided emergency cover across west Scotland.

Romec was established in 1989 by Royal Mail to look after its 2,500 buildings.

Its other activities include manufacturing the country's familiar red post boxes and maintaining National Lottery ticket machines.

In 2002, Balfour Beatty Workplace took a 49 per cent stake in Romec, which employs 4,300 people nationwide and had revenues of £200m last year.
