Launceston town centre post office given reprieve

A town centre post office in Cornwall which was facing closure has been granted a reprieve, an MP says.

The Launceston town centre branch in Westgate Street was under threat and plans were made for a new branch in Newport, about a mile (1.6km) away.

North Cornwall MP Dan Rogerson said that it had been confirmed that the current branch would remain open and local trader Julie Allen would run it.

He said the branch was "just where it's needed, at the heart of the town".

Mrs Allen, who has previous experience running two other Post Office branches, is due to take it over in mid-July, Mr Rogerson added.
