THE FAMILY of a 20-year-old diagnosed are fundraising to say thank you to hospital staff.
Chelsea Hubbard was told in March she had an eight inch tumour on one of her ovaries and within days was rushed to Ipswich Hopsital for an operation to remove it.
Now she is undergoing chemotherapy to kill off any remaining cancer cells and the family are raising money for those helping to treat her.
Mum, Tracy Hubbard, said: "It still all seems quite surreal, we never even thought it could be something sinister.
“They took the ovary away and all the tumour but because it might still be in the other ovary she has had to have chemotherapy.”
But former barmaid Chelsea, of Colchester Road, Lawford could still face another operation if the chemotherapy does not work.
“The NHS has been fantastic, they have pulled out all the stops,” said Mrs Hubbard.
“We are very positive, you can sit in the corner and rock and fall to pieces or fight it - we are the type that stand up and fight.”
Now the pair along with other family members are preparing for a fundraising weekend to say thank you to the nurses at the Mary Barron Chemotherapy Suite at Essex County Hospital in Colchester.
Ms Hubbard and her sister, Joanna Woodliffe will be doing a 36 hour sponsored sleepout in Manningtree High Street.
The pair will be in their sleeping bags outside the Post Office sorting office from 8am on Friday June 11 to 8pm on Saturday.
At midday on Saturday June 12 family members will be having their heads shaved at the Crown Hotel, High Street, Manningtree.
There will be buckets for donations at both events for anyone wishing to give to the cause.
