CWU annual conference 2010 is in the Bournemouth International Centre from Sunday 23rd May to Thursday 27th May. A thousand delegates from across the country will be attending to debate the issues that face them in postal, telecommunications and financial services industries as well as political and economic challenges.

Daily news reports will be posted here with summaries of major debates, speeches and fringe meetings. Emergency motions on the Labour leadership and privatisation of Royal Mail will be heard on Monday 24th May.

Sunday 23rd May

The sun is beating down on Bournemouth beach, but CWU delegates and officials are hard at work inside the conference centre. Key subjects being debated today are the union's rules, finance and education and training.

Labour leadership debate


Conference has this morning debated the Labour leadership contest. Conference has voted to only support a candidate who is supportive of CWU policies and trade union rights. CWU will also hold leadership hustings events for the candidates. CWU believes that all candidates - including Diane Abbott and John McDonnell - should get to stand to ensure the widest possible debate. The decision on which candidate to recommend will be taken by the NEC once the nominations have closed. CWU will also run a Labour recruitment campaign and maximize the turnout of CWU political levy payers in the leadership election.
