MORE than 200 people with disabilities have been helped to find jobs by a leading employment services firm.
The Sunderland branch of Remploy found work for 210 people, 110 per cent more than it did in the previous 12 months, despite the economic recession.
Remploy’s regional director for Yorkshire and the North- East, Tom Jackson, said: “These remarkable figures have been achieved in a very difficult economic climate and a contracting labour market.
“They are a testament to our expertise in supporting those furthest from the labour market into sustainable jobs.”
More than 75 per cent of the people who get a job supported by Remploy have been out of work for more than a year.
Nationally, the company found 10,500 jobs in the past 12 months – an increase of 31 per cent on the previous year.
Sunderland branch manager David Potts said: “Our strong relationships with employer partners, such as security specialists OCS, McDonald’s, Poundland and Royal Mail, are crucial to our continuing success in Sunderland and we work closely with them to make sure we find the right person for the right job.
“Behind these impressive figures lies an even more important story – our ability to help people to transform their lives through the social and financial benefits which a job brings.”
