A SHEFFIELD Liberal Democrat candidate has slammed Royal Mail - for delivering her election leaflets with British National Party publicity inserted inside.

Gail Smith, standing in Sheffield South East, was shocked to receive complaints from Asian families in Darnall.

They told her they had received her leaflet - with a BNP one folded inside.

Ms Smith said: "I had three complaints from people living in the area where we have an Asian council candidate.

"This should never have happened and it's really bad news for us.

"I want to make it clear to people I have not allied myself with the BNP."

Royal Mail is investigating.

A spokesman said: "Royal Mail has legal obligations, under the Representation of People Act, to deliver election material, so long as the material is legal.

"Our staff will be reminded they must not put one item inside another, as this is against Royal Mail guidelines."

samething happened in my DO during the last local elections, some chap complained that Sinn Fein leaflets had been put inside his DUP leaflet (infact ALL of the parties leaflets had been put inside ),so we had the dictat from high above that all leaflets had to be posted singularly.Bit pathetic really,I assume that people with some wit can understand that 1 political party will not ally itself with another 1 just cos the leaflets are put through a letter box together, but mebbe not.

yes its true and part of the reason election material is paid at a much higher rate as 1 of the conditions is that they do not get folded inside another leaflet of any kind and go through the letterbox unattached to anything else. Putting them inside another leaflet will get you in trouble

I personnaly have neve. Put any election material as we have previously been told not to do so, I do however decide which goes top of the pile and which on the bottom if I have multiple in one day. I beleieve the same rule applies to d2d they are not supposed to be put together in anyway though as usual ppl ignore this.
IF it ain't broke it soon will be if RM have their way

Well somebody better come up with a solution quickly because as anybody who has done this job for more than 5 minutes knows it is virtually impossible to insert 6 individual items of D2D into a double address slot that is already prepped with mail without placing them inside each other.
So the idea of 8,10 or even 12 into a double slot is just plain ridiculous. :cuppa

The postman probably got confused with the two Nicks, Clegg and Griffin, and thought they were the same party.

Well according to a well known source they will eventually be in a single sleeve soooooooooo someone is going to have to decide who is on top or maybe there will be a pricing structure which makes it more expensive to go on top (and no smutty remarks please) less for second (no sloppy noises here) less for third et seq. :hmmmm

TBH I'm still not sure how that would work because in our office we have areas who have 3 and others who have just 1 or 2 and then it will be reveresed a few weeks later so exactly who is going to collate them in a single sleeve - machine or human?

If the all In one system is applied to election leaflets I would be gobsmacked.

However other countries use it for their DTD and I belive RML/CWU should provide details of the exact set up other countries have, RML/CWU should engage with the workforce on the best method of preping and delivering DTD.

As far as I am aware I didn't mention election material and nor did fishtank - the suggestion was merely about 6 lots of DTD being prepped in a single sleeve - perhaps you are getting election fever BD :chuckle Come on the greens :Very Happy

Then he should take out a grievance for loss of earnings because under the National Agreement he is perfectly entitled to refuse to do the BNP leaflets and it doesn't matter what your bosses say.
Well done to you all for backing him up.

The thread is primarily about Election Leaflets. So TBH I thought you were talking about them too.

It's going to cause a serious logistical headache though. If everything except Election materials are in a sleeve/envelope. How are they going to make sure you have enough time to deliver them. Come Election time? :confused :hmmmm
Oh, of course! They won't care, and will assume you can magically deliver them, without taking any extra time! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
