Bungling postal staff deliver polling cards to wrong address

BUNGLING postal staff have sent polling cards for the General Election to the wrong addresses.

Brian Hannan received one of the distinctive white cards telling him where to vote – but was shocked when he saw it was for a different person at a different address.

All of his five neighbours at the block of flats in Macdowall Street, Johnstone. also received a card for the wrong address with different names on them.

Brian, 56, who has lived in his flat for the last six years, said: “This is potentially the single most important piece of mail you’re going to get this year.

“It tells you where you can go and vote. There’s nothing on it to say how you can return it.

“It’s got the wrong name and the wrong address on it, nothing about the two addresses is similar apart from the fact they’re both in Johnstone.

“The two addresses have to go to two different polling stations. I go to Johnstone Community Halls but the other card, which is for a flat in Floorsburn Crescent, is to go to St Margaret’s Primary.”

Brian said he had contacted the Electoral Register Office number written on the card but was told it wasn’t their problem.
He said: “Someone phoned me back and said you didn’t need the card to vote. But it’s the only thing which tells you where to go and vote.

“Some people might not remember or might not know where they’ve to go.

“I’m absolutely appalled. It might not be just this flat, it’s could be the entire street which has all got the wrong address.
“I’ve got this person’s card who lives on Floorsburn Crescent, they might have someone elses. I don’t know where it ends.
“It should have been handled much better.”

The Paisley Daily Express understands the problem has arisen from a new member of postal staff.

A Royal Mail spokesperson told the Paisley Daily Express: “Royal Mail would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and will be investigating the mis-delivery of this mail as a matter of urgency.”

The spokesperson added that anyone who has received a polling card which is not theirs can pop it back into a postbox where it will be returned to the sorting office and sent on to the correct address.

Not bad folks, 5 wrong deliveries out of 42 Millions. Keep up the good work!

Have people noticed the complete contrast of the people who just pop the letter back in the post box and those that get all flustered and start pacing about when then get a mis-delivery. Best of all are those that "return to sender" rather than pop next door and put it through the letterbox.

oh no the best i had was the letter with pretty much all wrong address, and only first and middle names
felt chuffed i knew who it was and delivered it
got it back a few days later with wrong address/no surname scrawled all over the front :d'oh!
