York postmen deliver a great game for charity

ROYAL Mail employees raised £600 for good causes when they held their annual charity football match.

Staff at the York West and York Central delivery offices played against each other at the Railway Institute Club to raise money for the Neuromuscular Centre.

The charity provides care and support for people suffering with muscular dystrophy, and the staff decided to try and raise money and awareness as the wife of staff member Tim Dale suffers from the disease.

Delivery manager Mike Boyes said: “We decided on having the match because we all came together over a similar interest.

“There are two offices here at Leeman Road so it seemed a good idea. There’s some good banter between the two before the game and it’s great to raise the money.”

It was the fourth year the offices have played each other for charity, with the Railway Institute providing the facilities free of charge. York West won 3-1, to wrest the shield back from York Central.
