TWO Crewe postal workers have been shortlisted for the regional final of the First Class People Awards.

The award recognise unsung heroes among Royal Mail staff in the North West who have demonstrated they are willing to go the extra mile to provide more than just an excellent service.

Customers from cities, towns and villages sent in nominations for the awards, citing incidents of bravery, community spirit and helpfulness above and beyond the call of duty.

And David Wilson and Harry Taylor, who work at the Crewe Mail Centre on Weston Road, will each receive £100 for reaching the regional final after being nominated in the fund-raising category.

David, a night shift driver, was recognised for raising more than £12,000 for Claire House Children’s Hospice, in Bebington, which helped care for his daughter Lydia, who sadly died from cancer last year.

Revenue protection officer Harry has been shortlisted for raising well over £30,000 for Diabetes UK over a number of years.

Steve Leach, Royal Mail’s regional operations director, said: “This shortlist represents just a few of the thousands of first class people working for Royal Mail, whose role in the community makes a real difference to people’s lives.”

The overall winner will be announced at a ceremony in London in May and will win a £2,000 family holiday and spending money.
