POPULAR postman Dave Martin has proved he is first class when it comes to delivering mail to his customers.
Dave, who has been a postman for 15 years, was nominated for a First Class Award by customers Non and Gwenallt Rees, from Penarth.
The Royal Mail invited people to write saying why their postman or woman deserved to be chosen for the award in its annual competition to find posties who go the extra mail mile while living and working in their communities.
For their nomination the couple from Penarth Haven have also picked up £1,000 in the Royal Mail’s UK prize draw.
“I am really chuffed by what the customers have said about me,” said Dave, 54, from Penarth, who is married to Linda.
“It is so nice to be recognised and for people to make the effort to write in and tell someone about it.
“It gave me a real lift when I got back off holiday this week.
“I love my job being out in the fresh air and meeting different people.
“This came as a complete surprise I’m dead chuffed that people thought this of me and the service I provide for them.
“This is why I’ve been doing this job for so long.
“Penarth Marina is such a pleasant area but the customers are one of the reasons that make my job so good.”
Gwenallt added: “It gives us great pleasure to nominate Dave Martin for this award.
“The service he provides is second to none. His deliveries are always conducted in the most efficient and caring manner and always courteously and genially.”
The couple’s letter continues: “Nothing is too much trouble for him in ensuring that we receive a first-class service.
“He is an undoubted asset to Royal Mail.”
The couple are not the only ones in the area to consider Dave a worthy contender, as more than 20 letters from neighbouring residents were sent in, all nominating him.
Jonathan Windsor, Penarth delivery office manager, said: “Dave is an excellent and hardworking postman and I am not surprised his customers think so highly of him.
“I have no hesitation in backing their nominations.”

Re: The stamp of approval for top postie Dave
Obviously the FaceBook page for the panorama guy either did not draw up enough votes or Royal Mail did not like the vote. Make your own mind up!
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one
