AN INVESTIGATION is underway after residents in parts of North Sheffield went for days without receiving any mail when their usual postman went on holiday.
Royal Mail said a stand-in postman had been hired through an agency. An internal inquiry is now being carried out.
One Shirecliffe resident told The Star: "We received no mail for days, including stuff we were expecting.
"It turns out we had a temporary postman as the usual one was on holiday.
"We mentioned it to the usual postman when he got back, and he told us he had heard the same thing about 20 times that day, and would report it to the office."
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "An investigation is underway after the recovery of a small quantity of mail due for delivery in the S5 postcode district. All deliverable mail has now been delivered with a letter of apology."
He added any customer who has a concern should contact Royal Mail customer services on 08457 740 740."

Re: Residents in mail misery
Is it just me, or does anyone else get the sense that in this sentence here:
"AN INVESTIGATION is underway after residents in parts of North Sheffield went for days without receiving any mail when their usual postman went on holiday."
there is almost the suggestion of "how dare the usual postman go on holiday- HOW DARE HE?"
