A BIRMINGHAM postman stole mail after splitting up from his wife, a court heard.

Darren Powell, aged 34, of Overton Road, Acocks Green, was caught stashing away post down the front of his trousers, city magistrates were told.

The former part-time postman admitted stealing four postal packets containing a total of £15 between November 1 and December 3, last year, and also pleaded guilty to stealing 16 postal packets on December 3. Suspicions were aroused last December when a customer complained to Redfern Park Delivery Office, in Yardley, where Powell was based, that he had not received goods ordered from Amazon.

Royal Mail investigators then applied an ‘honesty test’ on Powell’s round and deliberately placed packets and greetings card into his post trolley.

He was driven to his round by his manager and then observed. When challenged, numerous packages, jiffy bags and greetings cards, some opened and some unopened, were seized.

Powell’s home was searched and an invoice for a stolen Tesco’s entertainment item was found in the bin.

He told the investigators: “I know it’s no excuse but I’ve split up with my wife and everything has gone downhill since then.”

Powell, who has convictions for possession of a Class A drug, assault, theft, criminal damage and shoplifting, was released on conditional bail and will appear before Birmingham Crown Court later this month.

As long as thieves like Crozier are able to obtain £million and £millions fraudently, small-time thieves like that one in Birmingham will never register on my radar.
They did once, but not anymore. :no no
