TWO postmen from the north-east are in the running for a Royal Mail award which recognises commitment to local communities.
Graham Watson and Andy Coventry have been shortlisted for honours in this year’s Royal Mail 1st Class People Awards.
The pair, who work in the Inverurie and Aberdeen delivery offices, were chosen after customers were invited to nominate unsung heroes of their communities.
Mr Watson, 41, of Leslie Place, Kemnay, was shortlisted in the fundraising category after he collected £10,000 for various charities over the last four years.
He has raised the money in a number of ways, including hosting an annual darts tournament.
He said: “I enjoy helping other people and raising cash for charities which make a big difference to other people’s lives. It is also about having fun while you raise the cash.”
Mr Coventry, 46, of Powis Crescent, Aberdeen, works in the Altens Delivery Office and has been shortlisted in the community involvement category. He is one of a group behind various community projects, including Powis Gardeners and Powis Community Allotment Schemes.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award. I really enjoy the work involved with the Powis projects. I’m just happy to help brighten up the local community.”
