Theft of Keighley mail

Royal Mail is investigating the theft of items of post.

This week the company’s Keighley delivery office distributed a letter of apology to affected residents in the Fell Lane area, together with mail that had been recovered.

One High Pastures resident, who did not want to be named, told the Keighley News he had received some post that was six months overdue.

He said: “What I had through my door was bank statements, a letter from my daughter’s school telling me she had an exam in January, correspondence from my opticians and a Sky magazine from October.

“What is worrying me is what has been done with the information in this mail, which is all very personal.”

A letter signed by Simon Oxley, the Royal Mail delivery office manager at Keighley, said: “Please find enclosed some post for your address, which has unfortunately been delayed as a result of theft. This particular item was recovered when we recovered the mail.

“I would like to offer my sincere apologies for any inconvenience or distress you may experience as a result of this incident.”

When the Keighley News contacted Royal Mail, a spokeswoman said the police were not as yet investigating.

She said: “As part of an ongoing Royal Mail investigation, some items of mail have been found which should have been delivered to addresses in the Fell Lane area of Keighley.

“The mail is now being delivered with a letter of apology. Royal Mail takes such incidents extremely seriously, investigates thoroughly and takes whatever action is appropriate.”
