Probe after dumped post is discovered

A FURIOUS pensioner has blasted postal bosses after dozens of her letters were repeatedly dumped in an alleyway near her flat.

Hazel Weston, 65, of Clayhall Avenue, Clayhall, missed a vital hospital appointment in December because the letter informing her about it simply never turned up.

It was weeks later - and after more missed post which included Christmas cards and bills - that the arthritic OAP discovered what had happened when a neighbour knocked on her door with a bundle of letters he had found in a nearby alleyway.

She said it was not the first time post addressed to herself and her 77-year-old husband had gone missing.

She said: "It's being going on for about two years, when we had a change of postman.

"There are quite a lot of flats here and to get to us you have to go round the back of some shops and up a staircase.

"I think sometimes they just can't be bothered but they can see the flats are there.

"It doesn't happen all the time - some days we get our post fine which is what is so strange about it."

Mrs Weston said neighbouring flats had also complained about the problem and made several calls to the Royal Mail.

"It's like banging our heads against a brick wall," she said. "They just say they will look into it and give us a different reference number each time, while our letters with bank details, appointments and addresses are getting left outdoors.

"We're pensioners - we don't want our personal details left out in the open where they're not secure."

A spokesman for the Royal Mail said the incident would be investigated and urged any customers who are experiencing problems with postal delivery to contact the customer services department on 0845 7740740.
