A POSTMAN was viciously headbutted after a confrontation with a householder about the delivery of a parcel.

The resident lost his temper, branded the postman a "Jobsworth" and suddenly lunged at him, Grimsby Crown Court heard.

Darren Champion, 42, of Douglas Road, Cleethorpes, admitted assaulting Matthew Jeffery, causing actual bodily harm, on July 17.

Champion, a self-employed scaffolder, was given 200 hours' unpaid work and was ordered to pay £400 compensation.

What they should have done was refuse to deliver his mail for a considerable period of time - that would have supported all postmen on that round.

A response on the article page. Apparently the postman was 'abusive' after being abused by being called a jobsworth. So the guy was expecting the postie to take the slagging but when he didn't take his sh1t, he attacked him. What a twat.

Seems quite a freindly, considerate thing to do, does it not?
The postman would not let him help by leaving it with him, meaning the neighbour would have to travel all of the way to Fotherby St to collect his mail.
(Frustrating when it closes at 2pm everyday!).
The postman was abusive when he was called a jobsworth and so he got what most men would have given him...1st Class!
Put a uniform on some people and they think they are untouchable and above the law.
Unfortunately this is true, trafific wardens, police and now postman!
By the way i am the neighbour Mr Champion was trying to help, i just wish there were more people like him around.

Not taking sides here, Aaron, but did you write to the office giving permission for a neighbour to take in your packet?
If not, the postie was within his rights to refuse to leave it. We are damned if we do, damned if we don't. We are not supposed to leave anything without written permission.

I am taking sides as this Aaron guy has a very mixed up morality.

His mate abuses the postman by calling him a jobsworth and the postman responds in kind (wrongly he should have walked away) but Aaaron thinks its OK to physically attack the Postie - but not for the postie to stand his ground very chavtastic outlook.

'Placid Businessman' never known a scaffolder be called placid, they are normally stood on top of their scaffolding hurling abuse at passers by or wolf whistling like a bunch of pervs.

What aaron fails to mention is......
He was filling in a form to put through the door when Champion appeared and said he would take the parcel.
Mr Jeffery said he could not do that and Champion swore at him. Mr Jeffery told him: "How do I know you're not a parcel thief ?" When Mr Jeffery delivered items to Champion's nearby home, Champion threatened to "knock his block off ". "The defendant approached Mr Jeffery in an aggressive manner and, without any warning, lunged forward and headbutted Mr Jeffery," said Miss Baines.
Blood ran down his face and he suffered a cut on his nose.

Management backed the postie all the way and the guy is still picking his mail up from the callers office.
