An excellent post at Lenin's Tomb, on Channel 4's recent, dreadful commentary on the Royal Mail, and on the response of the pseudonymous postal worker Roy Mayall to the progamme. As Lenin points out, Mayall's book Dear Granny Smith is a wonderful read. It's a great companion piece to Capitalist Realism, in fact, and anyone who has enjoyed Capitalist Realism's account of the immiseration of public service labour will get a lot from Dear Granny Smith .

Good article, and I think that the message about what "modernisation" really means, will hit home hard when the majority of the British public become aware that the £400-500million that has been wasted on the latest technology, which will further reduce the manual workforce, will mean even later deliveries of mail than the public currently suffer.

I've never fallen for the "modernisation" clap-trap, I just wish the same could be said for the CWU. A more robust antagonism in the face of Royal Mail's idiotic plans since the comedic 2007 business plan was announced, would, I suggest, have been the order of the day.

Been reading the work of Dr Michael Hudson which I would recommend. http://www.michael-hudson.com/ It's mainly based in America, but it applies here too. He's suggesting that the current economic model is a return to a new economic feudalism. That makes us the new serfs. It certainly feels like that at times.

Thats the guy who was quoted in the guardian message boards,re your Dispatches reply,at the moment im reading Deepening Debt Crisis: The Road to Debt Peonage ,got to admit,loads of big words and terms that i dont understand but one quote from him sticks out like the sore thumb,it's for everyone who has ever got an email from Nigeria or elsewhere
'The one sure mark of a con, though, is the promise of free money'.
