Bungling power bosses send letter to 'occupier' of public toilet

BUNGLING power chiefs sent an official letter to the “occupier” of a public toilet – saying they needed to change their electricity meter.

The letter from Scottish Power was addressed to: The Occupier, Public Convenience, Talybont, Barmouth LL43 2AA.

It said they need to replace the existing electricity meter with as little “inconvenience” as possible.

A Royal Mail postman delivered it to nearby Talybont Post Office, shop and off-licence owner Alun Gerrard.

A laughing Mr Gerrard said: “I think it’s a case of toilet humour – the tail wagging the dog or the computer should have said no!

“Although this public convenience is very busy, it definitely doesn’t have an occupier!

“The public convenience at Talybont is owned by Gwynedd council and I handed the letter to a council official who thought it was amusing.”

Talybont councillor Eryl Jones-Williams said: “Common sense tells you that the toilet is owned by Gwynedd Council and that’s where the letter should have gone.”

The letter signed by David Davidson Operation Manager, Scottish Power Metering Service, Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington said: “Dear Sir/Madam. The electricity meter in your property is reaching the end of its officially permitted life and must be replaced. Your Electricity Supplier has instructed us to undertake this work on their behalf. This action is a legal obligation that we must undertake.

“If we call and you are not at home we will leave a card for you to make a suitable appointment.

“You do not have to take any action at this time.

“The work involved will require a short interruption to your electricity supply, even if your meter is outside, and it will be necessary for you, or your representative, to be in attendance.

“I” can assure you we will make every effort to replace the meter with as little inconvenience to you as possible.”

In response, a Scottish Power spokeswoman said: “Scottish Power administration staff are flushed with embarrassment and they will update the records accordingly.”
