The following was taken from the news article. Just goes to show what the government thinks of us.

Labour minister for Business, Innovation and Skills, Pat McFadden, recognised an industrial relations problem within Royal Mail but stated that disciplinary issues were not a matter for the Government.

Im from this office and while some of the decisions have seemed harsh it is nothing like as bad as they are trying to make out. Most of those dismissed had been warned on numerous occasions and knew the consequences.
Before any suggests it, I am not a manager.

read the article, does seem really bad, why haven't they organised a ballot to strike at this office ? include an overtime ban and work to rule, such is the strength of feeling I am sure it will be very effective.

This will be one Office nobody will be transfering to.

The usual New Labour - Handwringing BS - RM's Executive & Senior Managers are McFadden's attack dogs , just as McFadden is Mandy's attack dog / stooge in The Commons .

The MP is getting very warm i.e. Who is cracking the whip ? , Usual story , the bean counters running the asylum and either over promoted failed posties or people from outside that don't know the Industry running things in a Stalinist central planning style .

The job runs by itself .

It most certainly does. That's why we don't need half of the management structure in Royal Mail, if RM want to cut costs get rid of half of these useless wasters.

My objection is that there is no room for error. I know the postie that was caught on his way to work without his cycle helmet, it was a genuine error. Now that error will stay on his record for the rest of his service. If it happens again - suspended.
Agreed that the rule exists but, the problem in this office is that there is only 1 manager enforcing it. I see posties round southport every day without helmets on, yet they dont get a warning...how can this be??
How crap must the old dear feel that shes cost someone their job...what happened to customer service?? Its all coming down to stats and £ signs.
Lastly, this same manager failed to send out a whole round prior to Xmas and this same manager wins an award?
I agree to the post where someone mentioned strike action but the lads are running scared - when 1 lad was suspended, 3 of the witnesses where then also suspended within a few months - witch hunt?? Maybe..... The lads are all being watched and someone else said to me, if you watch someone long enough they will make an error, its human nature and no-one is perfect.
I've also had 1 lad say to me, he daren't lift his head above the parapet. Unfortunatley the attitude is, keep your head down and get the job done.
