Postman aids OAP who fell and broke her arm

A PENSIONER who broke her arm after falling in torrential rain was rescued by a passing postman.

Doris Stone, 88, was walking to catch a bus from Edward Pauling House when she slipped, breaking her arm and cutting her face.

As she lay in agony in the pouring rain, a young girl spotted her and called out to postie James Mills, who immediately took off his jacket, gave it to Mrs Stone and called an ambulance.

Paramedics took an hour and a half to arrive but, despite Mrs Stone's protestations, Mr Mills promised not to leave her and waited shivering in just a shirt in the cold and rain. She was also helped out by a worker from Edward Pauling House.

Mrs Stone said: "That postman was an absolute godsend. I just couldn't believe how lovely people can be. There I was with a broken arm, smashed face and feeling terrible and he came to help me.

"I feel so weak and so terrible but I am so relieved they came to my rescue. Now my sons and daughter-in-law have come to look after me. I don't know what I would do without them either. I am so lucky to have them."

Mrs Stone, who lives in Stone Crescent, was taken to West Middlesex Hospital in Isleworth after the fall on on December 29, where she stayed in overnight for treatment.

She was keen to meet and thank her saviour, the postman but the modest Mr Mills was reluctant to embrace the publicity when contacted by the Chronicle this week.

Dennis Sweeting, who sits on the committee of the Bedfont Lane Community Association with Mrs Stone, said they would struggle without her while she is laid up in bed but added that the local community is thinking of her.

"She is one hell of a lady," he said. "Without her it'll be hard to keep things going but we will do our best. We are all very concerned for her but she still seems to be keen to rule the roost from her house."

postlady at our office helped an elderly woman who had fallen and waited til an ambulance turned up. She phoned and told her dom, the first thing he said was You are going to be able to complete your delivery arent you!

well done to my local postie who helped an old frail pensioner go to the shops .
dont think he had been out for days because of the unsafe weather.

dread to think what may have happened if the old bloke had no one else to help him.
